Tour of Burgundy by bicycle

The Burgundy region is located in the heart of France and it’s an ideal destination for cyclotourists who love nature. Its territory is almost entirely occupied by hills covered by vineyards. In fact, come from here some of the best French wines, such as Bordeaux and Chardonnay.

There are about 650 km of bike paths in the area that give you the opportunity to take the “Tour of Burgundy by bicycle“. These are 5 simple itineraries, also suitable for children and seniors, which wind up on quiet country roads.

1.Canal de Bourgogne
From Dijon to Montbard (112 km)

Dijon is the capital of Burgundy, from here along the most famous canal of the region you arrive in the city of Montbard. During the journey you will cross the sweet landscapes of Auxois.

2.Canal du Nivernais
From Auxerre to Decize (180 km)

Starting point is the rich art city of Auxerre, the trail winds along the Yonne valley up to Clamency. Then it continues following the Canal du Nivernais, a true paradise for river tourism, to Decize.

3.Canal du Center
From Paray-le-Monial in Bourbon-Lancy (74 km)

It is a very simple and rather short route from Paray-le-Monial, important pilgrimage center, faithfully follows the course of the Canal du Center up to Digoin.
From this small tourist town you proceed to the Bourbon-Lancy spas in the Loire Valley.

4.Burgundy of the South
Chalon-sur-Saone in Macon (65 km)

The itinerary runs on the track of an ex-railway now transformed into Via Verde.
Start near the Chalon vineyards and cross the towns of Taizé and Cluny before ending in Macon.
Along the way you will find the longest bicycle trail in Europe: the “Tunnel du Bois-Clair”.

5.The Vineyard Route
From Beaune to Santenay (22 km)

From Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines, you cross the most prestigious local vineyards up to Santenay, a characteristic rural village.
