Romantische Straße – the Romantic Road

The Romantische Straße – The Romantic Road – is an itinerary among the most appreciated and frequented in southern Germany. Just as its name implies, it crosses romantic landscapes, enabling you to see fortifies medieval towns, castles and baroque churches that seem to have just come out of a fairy tale.

The itinerary is suited perfectly to cyclotourism because it runs on secondary and low-traffic roads that don’t have demanding climbs. There are also numerous rest areas equipped to make small repairs to the bike. The track is also well marked along its entire route and the availability of accommodation is great. Finding accommodation for the night con become a challenge only in the summer when the road is crowded with tourists.

The Romantische Straße connects the town of Füssen, the German Alps, to Würzburg, crossing Bavaria along the River Main.
In total it’s about 360 km in constant downhill (if traveled from south to north).

Among the most popular places of interest that the road reaches there are:

Don’t miss the castles of Weikersheim and Hohenschwangau, the Wieskirche sanctuary and the villages of Landsberg am Lech, Donauwörth, Harburg and Nördlingen.
