The Roman Cycle Track is a route of about 240 km that winds between Germany and Austria. The bicycle connects the town of Passau to the city of Enns, Austria’s oldest town.
The name of the cycle track lets you guess the presence of numerous historical sites. In addition to the magnificent local nature, there are also several archaeological sites, ruined castles and ancient settlements.
This is an ideal family route since it is always flat and is well marked along the way. The characteristic cycle track signs features a green Roman helmet on a white background.
The Roman Cycle Track largely exploits local cycle tracks and country roads that are not very busy. Along the way you will often find out about the historical places, the accommodation facilities and the restaurants in the area.
Starting from Passau, in Germany, just beyond the Austrian border, crosses part of Bavaria and then crosses the border. The cycle path continues on the gentle hills of Innviertel and Lake Attersee.
Frankenmarkt, Voecklabruck, Schwanenstadt and Lambach are just some of the Austrian towns the cycle track reaches that deserve at least a visit.
Once passed the city of Wels, an ancient Roman stronghold, only a few kilometers are left for the arrival at Enns.
