Castelluccio di Norcia is a small town in the heart of the National Park of Monti Sibillini. The village is a landmark for hikers and bikers visiting the park.
The itinerary that we point out develops within the protected area, on the slopes of Mount Vettore. You will cycle on asphalted roads for most of the route, a total of about 26 km.
Leaving from Castelluccio di Norcia, head towards the Pian Grande plateau following the directions for Norcia. After just a few kilometers begins a quite demanding climb that allows you to reach the Rifugio Perugia, the highest point of the entire route.
Just before the end of the climb, you can take a break to admire Pian Grande, Castelluccio and Monte Vettore from above.
After passing the Rifugio Perugia, the trail continues down to the plateau of Pian Perduto and further to Monte Vettore. The itinerary at this point goes back to the Pian Grande plateau and then again on the asphalted road leading to Ascoli Piceno.
You cycle surrounded by the nature of the National Park of Monti Sibillini, around Monte Vettore and the gently hill on which stands the village of Castelluccio. The itinerary ends right in the center of the town from which you’ve started the route.
If you still want to ride you can reach Norcia, just a few kilometers away. Norcia is part of the “Most Beautiful Villages of Italy” and deserves a thorough visit both to admire the old town and the local gastronomy.
