How to clean cycling shoes and helmet

HELMET
The cyclist’s helmet comes in contact with sweat, hair, rain, dust and smog that dirt it and reduce its efficiency. A good habit is to periodically clean the helmet. In this way it is possible to control the usury level and evaluate its functionality.

To clean the cycling helmet, be sure to have a soapy water basin (common dish soap it’s perfect), a rag and a spray suitable for use on the outer shell.

Proceed by immersing the hose clamps in warm water for about 5 minutes. Once done, rub it with your fingers and then squeeze to remove the excess water. Then wipe the inner shell with the wet rag.
Finally, use the spray to spray an outer layer of foam on the outer shell, then remove it with the rag rubbing well.

Once the operation has been completed, check that the helmet does not have any scratches or dents that might compromise its effectiveness. In that case, you’ll need to replace it.
To dry your helmet, hang it outdoors in a shady place for as long as it needs.

SHOES
The benefits of regular cleaning of cycling shoes are numerous:

  • eliminates those bacteria that cause bad smells and inner shoe deterioration;
  • allows to remove dirt, dust, mud, smog from the fabric and the laces in order to keep them working perfectly.

Cycling shoes are not suitable for washing in a washing machine because they will ruin, best to do all by hand.
The necessary need only includes a microfiber cloth and a special sanitizing spray.
It is therefore sufficient to spray the product on the entire shoe (inside and outside) and then rub thoroughly with the microfiber cloth. Once the operation is completed, it is advisable to open the shoes and leave them in the sun for a few minutes so that the product used can completely evaporate.
