Gubbio-Urbino-Pesaro: cyclotourism in Central Italy

Central Italy is the perfect setting for few days of cycling on suburban roads and in close contact with nature. Then we suggest you an itinerary linking three wonderful towns in this area: Gubbio, Urbino and Pesaro.

The route leads from the heart of Italy to the sea, on the Adriatic, passing through small towns and exploiting almost exclusively local roads.
It’s an itinerary suitable for those who have a bit of workout and aren’t afraid of the two climbs with an average slope of 5%, one of 10 km and the other of 6 km. The rest of the route is mostly downhill.

Gubbio-Urbino: 60 km
Gubbio is one of the most beautiful art cities of Umbria, with a very well preserved historical center and numerous panoramic views from which to admire the surrounding countryside.
You meet the only two challenging climbs shortly after leaving the city moving north and then northeast. Then you take a slight descent to the little town of Piobbico, just beyond the Marche border.
A few kilometers later, the itinerary crosses the river Metauro and follows its course up to Fermignano. Then turning north you leave the river and you reach Urbino.

Urbino-Pesaro: 36 km
The city of Urbino deserves a thorough visit because it presents a historic center of inestimable value. It’s the result of the legacy left by the dukes who in the Renaissance administered Urbino and transformed it into one of the most important Italian capitals.
Urbino is connected to Pesaro from the SP423, but the itinerary we recommend, leaves this route after a few miles in favor of less crowded road. You continue to pedal through the countryside by touching small provincial countries to the sea.
Once you arrive in Pesaro you can relax on the beach, but you take advantage of the opportunity even for a walk in the city center.
