Cycling in Trentino along the canyon of the river Sarca

Cycling in Trentino along the canyon of the river Sarca

A path for most on asphalt, with some uphill and short stretches of dirt in the undergrowth. You always ride in the middle of nature and mostly in a protected area. Indicated in the summer months between May and October, it is a particularly suitable route for lovers of grappa, wine and local products, as many farms are present.

The itinerary begins at the Lake of Santa Massenza, a glacial pond that is located in Trentino between the municipalities of Vezzano and Padergnone.
Santa Massenza is famous for its grappa production and if you come across these parts during the harvest period you will be overwhelmed by the scent of fermented grapes. There are many farms and distilleries in which you can do a tasting.

After leaving the village, the trail continues in the direction of Ponte Arche along the pedestrian walkway that runs along Lake Toblino. Here, the bike must be carried by hand, in order not to incur penalties. From the walkway you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sixteenth-century fortress called Castel Toblino.
It is a historic and truly suggestive place to which many legends are linked. According to the local population in full moon nights, the restless spirits of the castle float on the waters of the lake.

After passing Toblino, you continue pedaling on the state road in a slight uphill for at least 5 bends and then take the bike path: a very suggestive serpentine running between a rocky wall and the canyon overhanging the river Sarca. This bicycle route is easily accessible: it is a wonderful dive in nature to everyone’s reach.
Finished the track, you follow the signs for the Balandino Bridge, a modern bridge in steel and wood suspended above the canyon excavated by the Linarò River. Then on dirt road and asphalt you arrive at the locality of Villa Banale. Few kilometers later, at Ponte Arche, the cycle path takes you back to the Terme di Comano before heading back to the starting point.
