Clean the brake and unblock the pistons of a MTB

Mountain biking gives incredible sensations of freedom, it is fun to drive and gives many emotions. After every excursion, however, it is important to take care of the bike to keep it perfectly performing.

In particular, it is essential to clean the brake caliper. Clean this component regularly (possibly after each home trip) helps keep the braking system in good condition. It is a few minutes operation that reduces the consumption of pads.

The dust accumulating around the braking system is an enemy of the mechanical parts and must be removed. In fact, poor cleaning is often the origin of the brake piston block.

GENERAL CLEANING OPERATION
Perform at least every 2-3 extremely demanding excursions.
It is necessary to disassemble the brake caliper, then remove the pads and remove the dust with a cloth moistened with mineral oil or alcohol.
Then with a clean cloth, remove the oily layer remaining on the component.

BLOCKED PISTON
If the piston is blocked and can not return into its seat, it is necessary to clean and lubricate it. The piston must be kept as close as possible from its seat, but without removing it completely, it is poured over a few drops of mineral oil. At this point you can try to put the piston back into its seat again and again.

After cleaning the excess oil you can reinsert the pads and the clamp in place.
