THE BROMPTON CLIMB 2016: ON 24 JUNE ON THE STELVIO WITH FOLDING BIKE FOR CHARITY

It’s a matter of style. Brompton, the London-based manufacturer of the most popular folding bicycles on the market, is recognized by the public for the uniqueness of the product, but also for the character of its events. Owners of this bicycle, true icon of elegance and symbol of a lifestyle, remain faithful to Brompton always and in any case – even when it rains, even on holiday and … even uphill.

A few weeks after playing the Brompton World Championship in Venice racing “in a jacket, tie and helmet” in the lagoon, next Friday, June 24, the community of the folding bike will find themselves in Bormio to attack all together the 2758 meters of Stelvio for a good cause. As happened in the first two editions, this year too, the purpose of Brompton Climb will be to raise funds for “Soccorso Clown”, the Onlus that helps to give smiles to children in the hospitals through the intervention of “volunteer clowns”.

The Bromptonians will therefore abandon the dress code of the previous race to recover the most suitable technical clothing for the ascent, the most arduous in the history of the Giro d’Italia since Cima Coppi’s custom was born in 1965. Moreover, Stelvio is the highest pass road in Italy. Departure is scheduled at 8 am from 1250 meters high at the center of Bormio, at the foot of the climb. From there, the participants will have 36 hairpin turns distributed along the 21.5 km of road until reaching the Pass, thus exceeding 1550 meters of positive difference in height. The average slope is 7.1% with a peak of 14%.

It will be the opportunity to spend a different weekend than usual, to ride along a road from the wonderful panoramas and to feel really daring, able to dive into a real adventure. You will be able to test yourself and your Brompton.

Is it really possible to go up to the Stelvio with a small folding bicycle that, duly closed, takes the space of a large shopping bag?

Yes, it is; seeing what has happened in recent editions. While not denying its urban character, which even helps to increase the reach of this “epic enterprise”, Brompton invites everyone to try the Stelvio. There is no need to be champions or superheroes, and you do not even have to have special ratios on the bike: just be in shape and be in the mood to try.

Subscriptions to Brompton Climb are still open on brompton.it and soccorsoclown.it.
