Bicycle touring and nutrition

Having a good meal while traveling with bicycle is important to manage your strengths. A quality nutrition, rich and wealthy food is a precious cycling tourists ally. Let’s see what’s best to eat at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • BREAKFAST
The cyclist’s breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it must be substantial and easily digestible. Excellent fruit juices and jams to accompany tea and fresh fruit, an excellent source of mineral salts and water. Before starting to ride, however, wait for at least an hour.
  • LUNCH
At lunchtime, it is best to consume only one snack, so that you will not get intestinal disturbances when you go back to the pedals. Pasta is great, but be careful with sauces and overloaded seasonings, it is also good to have fresh fruit as a mineral replenishment. Cold or carbonated drinks and obviously alcohol should be avoided.
  • DINNER
After burning all the energy pedaling during the day, dinner can be full. The important thing is not to exaggerate. Better if you can dine in the early evening so you have time for a walk before going to sleep.

The most important thing during pedaling is to remember to drink in small sips every 15-20 minutes. Better avoid waiting for the stimulus of thirst because when this manifests it is too late!

Dehydration can lead to fatigue crashes that prevent the legs from pushing on the pedals and proceeding becomes very difficult. Other symptoms include headache, dry mouth, cramps.

To avoid unpleasant situations, try to stop at each and every fresh water fountain you find on your path and always carry the necessary supplies to continue drinking with you.

If possible, get two bottles: one with water and one with supplemental salts.
