Bicycle ride to the Forte Pozzacchio

The area of Rovereto, Vallagarina north of Lake Garda, was a border territory between Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire where, in the First World War they were fought fierce battles.
Some of the fortification used in war time have come intact to this days and they can be visited: it is the case of Forte Pozzacchio. Completely excavated in the rock, this austro-hungarian fortress is located in the town of Trambileno, about 10 km from Rovereto, and it’s reachable only through pedestrian and cycle path.

Starting from the historic center of Rovereto, you head to the so-called “wood of the city”, a very popular green area for walks and excursions. We leave behind the local vineyards and continue climbing into the territory of Trembileno.
