Tour of the “Busa” by mountain bike

The area of Upper Garda stretching between the municipalities of Arco, Riva del Garda, Nago Torbole and Dro is known as “Busa”, or “hole” in Trentino dialect. Actually it’s a flat area, with the exception of Monte Brione, and also particularly suitable for cyclotourism. In this territory, in fact, there are some cycling tracks well integrated with secondary and dirt roads.

By utilizing this lattice of bicycle routes it’s possible to discover the territory slowly, pedaling gently. The itinerary that we recommend is ideal for a medium level mountain bike ride.

Starting from the town of Massone you start riding along an old dirt road, in a slight climb, which after about 7 km arrives in Nago. From here, passing on a paved road, drive down to Torbole and walk along the lakefront to Riva del Garda. This section of the trail is particularly panoramic and frequented by tourists and local people who enjoy the sun and the vibrant atmosphere of the lake.

At the end of the walk turn north and continue towards Varone. Within walking distance of the village there are some wonderful waterfalls, that you can visit accompanied by an environmental guide. The route continues on a dirt road for about 3 km through Ceole, Varignano and Chiarano.
Then on cemented mule track you climb north of Arco by pedaling a short stretch on the right shore of the river Sarca. At the height of Via San Martino you turn for return back to the starting point.
