Visiting Monteluco by mountain bike

Visiting Monteluco by mountain bike

Monteluco, a small village in Spoleto, is a spiritual, regenerating place characterized by the presence of a sanctuary dedicated to St. Francis and a Sacred Wood. Right in the woods, there are several dirt paths ideal for hiking and mountain biking.

What we propose is an itinerary to visit Monteluco by mountain bike. This is a difficult path because it has considerable climbs and technical descents. It is therefore recommended only to experienced bikers.

You leave from the Convent of Saint Francis and, once you reach the lawn of Monteluco, turn right to enter a fun trail in the woods. This section of the itinerary perfectly resembles the ancient Via di Francesco through which the pilgrims from Vienna reached Rome.

After about a kilometer you leave the woods and turn left onto the paved road that goes up to the village of Patrico. You cross the town and then take path no. 6: a steep descent characterized by stones and rocks that require a lot of attention. On its final part the descent is much easier.

Once reached the bottom you get back to the top of Monteluco on the paved road. After a few kilometers a path on the right allows you to get very close to the famous Bridge of the Towers and let you admire a wonderful panorama of the historic center of Spoleto.

Continuing the path becomes more difficult and hard to go. Follow the signposts for path n. 4 paying attention to the particularly steep terrain, in some sections you will have to get off the bike and make a few meters by foot.

The trail ends again on the paved road connecting Patric and Monteluco. You can go back to the starting point by following the path you did at the beginning.
