The Marturanum Park is a protected area of about 1,240 hectares located in northern Lazio, a region known as “Tuscia”. The territory of the park is of volcanic origin; there are two large valleys dug into the tuff from the course of the same rivers: Biedano and Vesca.
The vegetation grows lush, covering almost completely the tuff rocks that protrude everywhere from the ground. The park is the natural habitat for foxes, wild boars, badgers, porcupines, and even numerous amphibians and birds including the pilgrim falcon.
The area is ideal for hiking in mountain bikes suitable for beginner and experienced cyclists. You are pedaling in a wildly natural landscape that, fortunately, has not suffered the serious consequences of human pollution.
Even today, along the paths that cross the Marturanum Park, it is easy to meet Maremma cows grazing freely, shepherds and breeders with their animals.

In the park, there are also numerous testaments of the past: from the Etruscan period to the medieval period. So you can visit ancient Etruscan tombs that are perfectly preserved over time. Some date back to the 6th and 5th centuries BC.
Reference point for visitors to the park is the municipality of Barbarano Romano. Here you can find the map of the trails and tourist information of the territory.
One of the most interesting routes is the one that runs on the track of the ex-railroad Capranica-Civitavecchia. The train path has been transformed into a very suggestive green road that also involves the crossing of dark tunnels for which adequate lights are needed.
