The Veneto region offers several cycling routes, one of the most impressive is the Treviso-Ostiglia Cycle Track. About 118 km long, this cycle runs parallel to the railway that, until 1944, allowed the transposition of military and war material to the Austrian border.
After the Second World War, after a few attempts to restore the line, the railroad was officially dismantled in 1997.
A few years later was stearted the project for the area’s redevelopment and the construction of the cycle track.
Thanks to the interest of local organizations in favor of slow mobility and FIAB, over 50 km of tracks have already been built. The stretch between Treviso and Bevadoro di Campodoro, on the border between Padua and Vicenza.
The Treviso-Ostiglia Cycle Track is trail suitable also for families with children. It is totally flat and shaded, almost always runs straight on paved roads or gravel roads.
Care should be taken only during road crossings, there are many of it along the route.
TRACK
The departure to Treviso, an important center of the ancient Republic of Venice, is set in Piazza dei Signori. The square overlooks Palazzo del Podestà, the Civic Tower and the Palazzo dei Trecento. These are historic buildings of great architectural and cultural value.
The route then goes into the Treviso countryside, passing very close to the Oasis of Cervara. It is worth taking a short break to visit it because there are several bird specimens in it.
After about 16 km after the start, you enter the province of Padua. Continue on comfortable asphalt roads through the village of Camposampiero where you can also cross the Sant’Antonio Path. A short distance is also the Cycle Track Brenta, another naturalistic itinerary of great charme.
Once you reach Bevadoro to reach Ostiglia you have to move in the direction of Legnago and then pedal for about 60 km.
