The Three Peaks of Lavaredo from Dobbiaco

The Three Peaks of Lavaredo from Dobbiaco

The Three Peaks of Lavaredo are the most famous of the Dolomites. Impressive and compact, immediately draw attention of artists and thinkers for the harmonious shapes and the suggestive position. Starting from Dobbiaco, the route to reach them by bicycle is about 60 km long and quite challenging (about 1,500 m in altitude).

From the village of Dobbiaco you immediately start riding on the bike path of the Landro Valley, a well-groomed, barrier-free dirt track. Than after 3 km you reach Lake Dobbiaco and after 8 km Lake Landro. The latter is one of the largest in the Alta Val Pusteria, a truly enchanting place surrounded by mountains.

Starting again you leave the cycle track to pedal along the SS48 bis. The route is uphill with ever greater slopes as you approach to the Lake Misurina. Defined as the “pearl of the Dolomites”, the lake is very popular and deserves a longer stopover because soon you will face more challenging climbs.

After passing Misurina, you take an asphalt road closed to traffic that after 8 km reaches the Auronzo shelter at 2,400 m. Then a dirt path leads directly under the Three Peaks of Lavaredo.

It’s time to leave the bike, because it’s forbidden to continue riding until the Antonio Locatelli shelter. You will therefore need good trekking shoes! From the shelter you can admire the Three Peaks of Lavaredo from the classic perspective of some famous postcards. Return to Dobbiaco follows the same route.
