saddleThe choice of the saddle is an operation to be evaluated with care. It’s not enough to concentrate on the destination of use (racing, mtb, cyclotourism, city) and color because the essential features are those related to ergonomics and comfort.
Using a saddle that is unsuitable for our physicality and our needs can cause the development of pathologies and problems. Let’s look at the guidelines to follow when choosing a saddle.

GUIDELINES
The first step to buy the right saddle, fit to our physicality, is to understand which we need. How?
First of all, you need to measure the distance of your own ischial bones, those that will actually be in contact with the saddle. Scientific studies have shown that the average distance id 11.8 cm for men and 13.04 cm for women.
Considering these measures, a guidance table has been drawn up:

  • Ischial bones < 11cm = narrow saddle
  • Ischial bones 11 cm -13 cm = medium saddle
  • Ischial bones > 13 cm = wide saddle

The second thing to look at, is the driving style, the position we take in the saddle. We have to taken into account that greater is the inclination of the back while pedaling, greater will be the contribution required for the saddle hook. If, on the other hand, the back is erect or almost, much of the support work has to be carried out from the rear saddle.

Example, if the distance of your ischial bones is 12 cm and yours is an athletic driving style (for race, bent forward) you will need a mid-sized rear saddle with a tapered hook but strong, able to support your body lying forward.
