Ostsee-Radweg: Baltic Sea Cycle Track

Ostsee-Radweg: Baltic Sea Cycle Track

The Ostsee-Radweg, or the Baltic Sea Cycle Track, winds up along the northern coast of Germany across the country. The track starts at the border between German and Denmark and ends at the opposite border, between Germany and Poland.
About 942 km long and you never move away from the sea.
The trail is completely flat and always flows on asphalt. It uses largely local bicycle path or low-crowded secondary roads. These features make it suitable even for less experienced cyclotourists.

The Baltic Sea Cycle Route starts in Flensburg, a town easily accessible from Hamburg.
You are always pedaling near the sea, which is kept on the left, now surrounded by woods and cultivated fields, now from ponds and gentle hills.
Approximately 150 kilometers further you will reach Kiel, a beautiful and populous town that deserves a visit. Later you meet Heilegenhafen, from where you can also get to Fehmarn Island, which is very interesting for bird watching enthusiasts.

Continuing it’s possible to make a detour (40 km) to visit Lübeck, from where you can also return to Italy by plane.
The cycling route continues towards Travemünde and then from Wismar to Kühlungsborn. Next stop is the city of Roctock, in the heart of ex-socialist Germany.
In Stralsund, through a bridge, you reach the island of Rügen: World Heritage since 2011.
Left the island you are just 100 km away to arrive in Poland. The last major city that you encounter is Greifswald, but the cycle path officially ends a few kilometers further down to Ahlbeck.
