Germany is famous for its simple and well organized cycling tours, the Nahe River Bicycle Lane, or Naheradweg, is one of these. Like most of the bike routes also this path runs along the banks of a river: the Nahe River.
Pedaling along the route of a river allows you to make a very panoramic journey and always downhill.

The Nahe River is born in the Saarland region and after about 127 km it is thrown into the Rhine. The track always runs on a protected site with the exception of some short sections where you are pedaling on country roads that are not frequented by cars.

The Nahe River Bicycle Lane is well marked along its entire route, and it also crosses many towns with a train station so you can alternate the bike and the train.
You pedal immersed in a characteristic countryside landscape between hills, forests and villages.

The route begins at the river’s source in the heart of a natural reserve that also hosts many deer. The Nahe is characterized by its tortuosity, the waterway always flows through the hills forming a number of loops and the bicycle follows them faithfully.

Along the way you can admire a few castles that rise on the surrounding hills. Even in Oberstein, the main city in the region crossed, there are a castle and a church perched on a rocky ledge overlooking the modern town.

Past Oberstein we proceed in a more rural landscape with more rugged hills and rocky dominated forests. As you progress you always meet more vineyards in the track side, a sign that you are approaching  by the Rhine Valley.

The hilly landscape is permanently interrupted at Bad Kreuznach, the largest city crossed by the track and the river Nahe. Just a few miles beyond the river throws in the Rhine and the cycle track ends.
