Mozart’s Cycle Track – Mozart Radweg

Mozart’s Cycle Track, or Mozart-Radweg, is a 450-km bike path that traces the life of the famous German composer through Tyrol and Bavaria. It is a cycling track that runs largely on secondary roads where traffic is practically in-existent. You pedal on dirt road and asphalt mostly on flat, except for the Alpine stretch of the Tyrolean mountains. Overall, it is very well indicated for all its length: the road sign contains Mozart’s profile and the writing “Mozart-Radweg”.

Departure from Salzburg, Mozart’s hometown. From here the cycle track winds through the rivers Salzach and Inn arriving to Rosenheim before going back. Along the way there are other places connected with the great composer such as Lake Wolfgangsee, on whose shores was born his mother, and the village of Oberndorf, where the Christmas song “Stille Nacht” was performed for the first time. Mozart was often a guest in Bavaria in several towns where he was performing or he’d stop with his family. For example, in Wasserburg, at the age of seven, he approached the church’s organ and started playing it naturally, so that impress his parents by showing all his talent.

The Mozart Cycle Track also crosses historical localities that present traces of the ancient Roman Empire and places of natural interest where you can admire waterfalls, caves and secular woods.
