Lazio by bike: Paliano – Fiuggi cycle track

One of the most striking cycle tracks in Lazio region is the one that runs between Paliano and Fiuggi in the province of Frosinone. The track is not yet equipped with any signage and also has a remarkable altitude difference which makes it suitable only for experienced cyclists.

The whole route is about 30 km long. The route was derived from the dismantling of the old Roma-Fiuggi-Frosinone railway, which is therefore a wonderful example of ecological transformation. Before leaving Paliano, you need a sufficient water supply to travel much of the route as you will not encounter public fountains for at least 20 km.

The departure from Paliano is immediately uphill. The cycle path runs alongside the Prenestina Way to the crossroads with the provincial road leading to Olevano. At this point, you move away from the traffic in the direction of Serrone. The ascent ends at the former local railway station.

Then begins a falsopian stretch that allows you to rest your legs. The cycle track then goes back to the Prenestina road and after about one and a half kilometers cross the road to Piglio. The following is the most beautiful stretch of the entire trail: 9 km immersed in nature.

Once reached the town of Acuto, you can refilled the bottle. The village is located a few kilometers from Fiuggi, but the track does not reach the center of the city. To pedal to the old town you have to enter the provincial road for a few kilometers.
