From Hamburg to Berlin by bicycle

Hamburg and Berlin, two major cities in northern Germany, are separated by just under 400 km. Covering this distance by bicycle is feasible by the presence of numerous bike paths and country roads. This is a flat path, to be tackled during good weather, best if divided into three parts.

Hamburg is easily reached by plane from several Italian cities and once you arrive in Berlin it will be just as easy to get back. Alternatively, both cities can be reached by bike through the Eurovelo network.

First part – 205 km
Hamburg is the most important port in Germany, it’s a large city but just off of its periphery we find ourselves in a rural landscape made of smaller villages. The first part of the route runs parallel to the River Elbe until it reaches its natural reserve (80 km from Hamburg). Several kilometers later at the town of Havelberg, you leave the river course.

Second part – 55 km
Then, you enter the Westhavelland Nature Park that it stretches along the banks of the Havel River. You will pedal through woods, villages and cultivated fields to reach Rathenow.

Third part – 100 km
The route now crosses the Havelland-Radweg, a real cycle track where you pedal on a secure facility far away from car traffic. After a few km you pedal on Eurovelo 7 which leads you to Berlin. The itinerary ends just in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
