From North Cape to Cape St. Vincent, crossing the Atlantic Ocean
Eurovelo 1 is about 8,000 km long and crosses 6 countries: Norway, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal.

Trondheim
The Norwegian section of the route, about 2,400 km, winds in the typical Nordic landscape between woods, lakes, colorful houses, mountains and fjords. The track follows the profile of the coastline, always flat and also touching the small local islands inhabited by fishermen and hunters. It then goes west to Trondheim and further to the city of Bergen. From here you must take the ferry to Scotland.
The journey resumes in Aberdeen on the east coast of the country and continues through the fascinating Scottish moorlands to Glasgow. After another 150 km it reaches the west coast at Cairnryan from where, in about 3 hours, you arrive in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
From Belfast, the cycling tour runs along Lake Neagh and then crosses over the Republic of Ireland. In just under 1,000 km, Eurovelo 1 reaches the south of the country along its western side: you will pedal through historic localities, on cliffs, and close to archaeological sites of national interest. At this point another ferry leads to Wales where it continues the route.
You will arrive at the town of Fishguard and you will need another 310 km to reach Bristol in England. From the city you go to the green countryside of Cornwall until you reach the port of Plymouth where, with another ferry, you arrive in France.
Even in the French nation, the trail keeps close to the Atlantic coast for 1,070 km. Going south you can see how the landscape is transformed into the classic Mediterranean landscape we are accustomed to. When you arrive near the Pyrenees, you face the toughest climb of the Eurovelo 1, not so much for the slopes but for the length: about 20 km.

Salamanca
Before the end of the climb we find ourselves in Spanish territory. The route crosses Spain from north to south for a total of 1,100 km, from the famous village of Roncisvalle, passing through Pamplona and Salamanca to the Portuguese border.
This area of Portugal is very developed in the tourism sector and it will not be difficult to find hospitality and refreshment. Eurovelo 1 ends in the town of Sagres of Cape St. Vincent
Be careful: Not all sections of the route have been complete yet, it is advisable to check Eurovelo’s official website for more information.
