Discover Flanders by bike

Flanders are one of the three regions that make up Belgium. The territory is characterized by a dense network of cycle paths and greenways so it is very easy to organize a bike trip in this part of the country.

In the Flanders, the bicycle is not just meant as a sport but also as a real means of transport and everyone use the bike. Not surprisingly, there are famous cycling events such as the Tour of Flanders, the Gent-Wevelgem, the Brabant Arrow. Eddy Merckx was born in the Flanders.

The region is particularly well suited for cyclists. In addition to being almost flat, it is also very beautiful from a landscaped point of view. In fact, cross-country trails run through medium-small towns and vast countryside areas. Often you walk on the banks of rivers or streams that lead directly into the heart of the most impressive cities.

Among these, Bruges, the North Venice, is a spectacle not to be missed, a World Heritage Site. Another imperative destination is Gand, the city of Emperor Charles V, an ideal starting point for visiting the villages along the Leie River.

The services dedicated to cyclists in Belgium are very efficient: there are information centers in almost every station. In addition, the network of cycle lanes is organized around a series of joints (Knooppunten), or the crossing points of various roads. At each intersection there are signs indicating the direction to be taken to reach the next junction. They are an excellent point of reference for all cyclists who travel from the city to the countryside.
