Cyclotourism in Samos

Samos is a small Greek island situated in the eastern Aegean Sea, not far from the coasts of Turkey.
It’s believed that the island is the homeland of Epicuro, Aristarco e Pitagora.
About 43 km long and 13 km wide, Samos is one of the ideal destinations for those who love to discover the territory by bicycle. Cyclotourism in Samos isn’t yet a well-established reality, so you do not risk bumping in numerous groups of visitors, and you can appreciate the authentic spirit of the island.

With the ferry from the Turkish coast, you reach Samos in about 2 hours. Ideal starting point is the town of Vathy, on the north coast. It’s the main port of the island and the largest inhabited center.
The streets of the island are not very busy, but they have continuous ups and downs that need to be tackled with a bit of workout.
At 10 km from Vathy, westbound, you meet Kokkari, a small fishing village and tourist destination with a beautiful beach and many typical restaurants.

Proceeding along the road you are surrounded by Mediterranean scents and the scenery is really amazing. Between a city and the other you can admire sandy coves, marvelous beaches and the white and blue buildings typical of all of Greece.
Karlovasi e Potami, on the north coast, are also to be visited.

In the hinterland you are immersed in the countryside surrounded by vineyards. In fact, Samos produces a particular Moscato to match desserts and aperitifs.
In the southern part of the island there are Pithagorion and Potokaki. The first is a tourist town with a strong Mediterranean atmosphere and many sailing boats moored at the port. Like a sentinel on its bay, there is a small medieval fortress.
